US Upland Cotton Sales, Exports See Sharp Drop
Net sales of US Upland cotton for the 2023/2024 marketing year experienced a significant decline, falling 45% from the previous week and 20% from the prior four-week average, according to the latest export sales report from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The report, covering the period of April 19-25, 2024, reveals that net sales of Upland cotton totaled 97,400 running bales (RB). While increases were observed for Vietnam, Pakistan, China, India, and Bangladesh, these were offset by reductions for South Korea and Mexico. Net sales for the 2024/2025 marketing year also declined, primarily due to a reduction for Guatemala.
Exports of Upland cotton saw a sharp drop, falling 31% from the previous week and 39% from the prior four-week average. The primary destinations for these exports were China, Pakistan, Turkey, Vietnam, and Mexico.
Pima cotton also experienced a decline in both net sales and exports. Net sales of Pima cotton for the 2023/2024 marketing year fell 63% from the previous week and 25% from the prior four-week average, with increases for Vietnam, China, India, Colombia, and Pakistan offset by decreases for other destinations. Exports of Pima cotton also saw a significant drop, falling 55% from the previous week and 51% from the prior four-week average.
